Ambulatory Surgical and Emergency Department Data

Ambulatory Surgical Data (AS) and Emergency Department Data (ED) is collected from 593 freestanding ambulatory surgical centers, lithotripsy centers, cardiac catheterization laboratories, and short-term acute care hospitals.  AS reportable events include those with a procedure that involves a valid Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code occurring within the following ranges: 10000 through 69999, and 93500 through 93599. ED reportable events include all emergency department visits in which emergency department registration occurs and the patient is not admitted for inpatient care at the reporting entity. The data is collected on 73 data fields, including patient demographic information, hospital identifying information, payer information, charges, procedures, and diagnosis information.

AS/ED Patient Discharge Data is collected in accordance with Section 408.061, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 59B-9, Florida Administrative Code. These laws require that AS and ED patient discharge data records from hospitals and freestanding ambulatory surgery centers be reported to the Florida Center. The data used will provide a statewide integrated database that includes ambulatory surgery and hospital emergency data services for the assessment of variations in utilization, disease surveillance, access to care and cost trends.
