Enhancing the Safety Net Through Data-Driven Policy Project

The National Governor's Association demonstration project will be useful in helping to design this larger project and in the development of policy options.  First, it provides assistance in accessing and understanding the existing AHRQ data on the safety net.  Thus, the final project can be reconfigured and reconceptulized to meet more targeted data needs.  Secondly, the demonstration project provides an opportunity to include other key stakeholders and will ensure high-level commitment to the safety net issue.

Finally, Florida's participation as a demonstration site in this project will allow AHRQ strategies for assessing the demand, financing and health outcomes of the safety net to be tested and refined in a large state that has a variety of safety net providers and a number of different financing strategies.
