Colleen Porter came to the University of Florida in 1998. She has managed
telephone surveys of health insurance coverage in Florida, Indiana, Kansas
and Miami-Dade County. Ms. Porter has conducted several studies regarding
survey methodology, and has experience in telephone, mail and in-person
surveys. She worked for the Census Bureau, both in primary data collection
for recurring economic surveys (CPS, SIPP) and also as a consultant, developing
interviewer training materials. Ms. Porter earned a master's degree in
Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. At Texas, she spent
three years at the Office of Survey Research, including a stint as field
director for the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and assisting
with a groundbreaking study on behavior and attitudes regarding HIV. She
has also worked as a newspaper editorial writer and columnist, covering
health care and education issues.
