Medicaid Prescribing Pattern Review Panel
Background
The 1999 Florida Legislature mandated a Prescribing Pattern Review Panel to evaluate treatment guidelines and recommend ways to incorporate their use in the practice pattern identification program. Practitioners who are prescribing inappropriately or inefficiently, as determined by the agency, may have their prescribing of certain drugs subject to prior authorization.
The Panel is charged with:
- Working with the DUR Board to identify inappropriate prescribing patterns.
- Design and perform educational appraisals for prescribers.
- Eventually design restrictions within the Medicaid program for physicians who continue to exceed norms.
