Portable X-ray
Laura MacLafferty, Unit Manager |
Diagnostic x-ray tests are provided to patients in a place of residence such as their own home, a nursing home, or hospital that does not provide x-ray services for its patients directly but arranges with a portable x-ray supplier to render these services. Portable x-ray services must be ordered by and provided under the supervision of a physician.
License/Certification Requirements
An occupational license is required for the business and professional licenses for the radiologic technologist and the physician who must meet the requirements specified in federal regulations. In addition, effective March 1, 2004, some providers of diagnostic imaging services may require licensure as a "health care clinic" pursuant to part XIII, chapter 400, Florida Statutes and chapter 59A-33, Florida Administrative Code. Additional information on licensure as a health care clinic can be obtained from the Agency's Health Care Clinic Unit.
An application for certification includes submission of a completed application, required documentation, and successful completion of a survey. There are no fees and no renewal applications required for certification. (Health care clinic licensure fees may apply).
Statute/Rule Authority
Unless required by the “Health Care Clinic Act,” there are no state licensing requirements imposed by the Agency. The Department of Health, Bureau of Radiation Control regulates x-ray equipment.
